Women face steeper labour market challenges

- KULDEEP SINGH

THE UNEMPLOYMENTRATE in urban areas has been consistently increasing for the last three months, from August to October, reflecting a growing mismatch between job creation and the labour force.

Adverse impact of 50% additional US tariffs on labour-intensive manufacturing is also believed to have increased joblessness in urban areas.

According to the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) data, released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), the unemployment rate in urban areas increased from 6.7% in August to 7% in October. It was 6.8% in September.

INVESTMENT-GRADE BONDS, i.e., bonds rated from ‘AAA’ to ‘BBB’, offer higher yields than bank fixed deposits (FD) of similar maturity profiles. Currently, they offer yields of up to 13% or even higher. Thus, the significant yield premium offered by corporate bonds can help investors earn higher inflation-adjusted returns.
