Govt’s rice stocks surge despite record sales in open market

THE GOVERNMENT'S CENTRAL-POOL rice stocks continue to surge despite brisk offloading of grain through open market sales, allocation to states, for ethanol manufacturing and Bharat rice initiative.
Open mark sales of rice by the Food Corporation of India (FCI) this fiscal, at present, is close to 7 million tonne (MT), a record and surpassing FY25's record sale of 4.63 MT.
Officials said that the corporation may sell around 9 MT of rice to bulk buyers in the current fiscal.
