With no El Nino conditions, normal rains likely this year

IMD forecast to be released soon
INDIA IS LIKELY to witness a 'normal' southwest monsoon (which lasts from June-September) this year in the absence of El Nino conditions, a well-known weather scientist said, citing global forecasts.
"A blended forecast from UK Met Office, the National Centers for Environmental Prediction and the European Centre for Medium-range Weather Forecasts suggest average to above-average monsoon rainfall in India," Akshay Deoras, research scientist, National Centre for Atmosphere Science, University of Reading, United Kingdom, told FE.
India Meteorological Department (IMD), the country's official weather forecaster, is expected to release the first prediction for the monsoon season soon.
