The fuel's growing popularity stems from rising petrol and diesel prices, the relatively low running costs of CNG (₹3-4/km), and a rapidly expanding refuelling infrastructure. The government aims to increase CNG filling stations from 7,500 in 2024 to over 18,000 by 2032.
