Salaries on the rise but firms cutting back on new staff
Express and Echo
|June 26, 2025
STARTING salaries in the west of England are continuing to rise but companies across the region are cutting back on hiring new staff, new research has revealed.
-
Reduced recruitment and redundancies were linked to increases in candidate availability, according to the latest KPMG and REC, UK Report on Jobs: South of England survey, compiled by S&P Global.
The number of permanent jobs in the region fell for the 22nd month in a row during May, while demand for temporary staff also dropped.
Recruiters said the drop in hiring was linked to weaker market confidence, concerns over costs and recruitment freezes.
