Whitty: I was cautious over lockdown but in the end we waited too long

BRITAIN waited “a bit too long” before imposing the first Covid-19 pandemic lockdown, Chief Medical Officer Sir Chris Whitty today told the Inquiry.
Sir Chris became one of the most recognisable faces of Britain’s leadership in the pandemic after regular appearances at daily press conferences led by Prime Minister Boris Johnson or his cabinet colleagues.
Together with Sir Patrick Vallance, the UK’s Chief Scientific Adviser, he was instrumental in steering the country through the pandemic.
Sir Chris agreed he was “cautious” about the imposition of a lockdown when Covid began to spread in early 2020, compared to some of his medical and scientific colleagues.
