US move to raise gun age to 21 faces Senate block

Matt Watts THE US House of Representatives has responded to recent mass shootings by voting to set a minimum age of 21 for buying semi-automatic weapons - but the move faces being blocked by the Senate.

The Democrat-run house passed the legislation as part of a wide-ranging gun control bill that would also prohibit the sale of ammunition magazines with a capacity of more than 15 rounds.
The proposal comes after 18-year-old Salvador Ramos shot dead two teachers and 19 children at a school in Uvalde, Texas on May 24. A teenager is also accused of carrying out a racist attack in a Buffalo supermarket 10 days earlier in which 10 people were killed.
