Khan and northern leaders say cutting it back would be a national outrage’
SADIQ Khan today joined forces with Labour mayors from the North of England to warn that scaling back HS2 would cause "international embarrassment" and be a "national outrage".
They said the failure to complete the high-speed line to Manchester would leave the North with "Victorian transport infrastructure that is unfit for purpose" and cause huge economic damage in London and the South-East.
Mr Khan met the mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham; Liverpool City Region mayor Steve Rotheram; West Yorkshire's Tracy Brabin; and South Yorkshire's Oliver Coppard ahead of attending a Transport for the North board meeting in Leeds.
