Mane's contract situation should be a warning to Spurs over Kane

THE arrival of Ivan Perisic should kick-start a pivotal summer at Tottenham, but the most important signing the club could make this off-season is still Harry Kane.

Mane's contract situation should be a warning to Spurs over Kane

Unlike this time last year, there is no talk of Kane leaving Spurs, a reflection of their impressive progress under Antonio Conte and a new sense of ambition at the club (as well as a lack of obvious suitors).

Kane is entering the final two years of his contract but, as reported in these pages last week, is understood to be open to discussions over a new deal - provided Conte is backed and Spurs appear in a position to win the trophies he craves.

For the club, capitalising on this position of strength to tie down Kane is paramount, because a year from now the situation will obviously look very different.

If Kane's stock is high today, in summer 2023 there is every chance it will be even higher.
