Region's child poverty levels drop over a year

Support Child poverty levels have taken a drop in Dumfries and Galloway over the past year

Child poverty levels dropped dramatically in Dumfries and Galloway in the space of just one year, surprise statistics have revealed.

There are nearly 1,200 fewer children and young people living in poverty in the region compared to previous figures.

And the progress made means that the rate of child poverty for Dumfries and Galloway is now lower than when records began in 2015.

It was widely known that more than one in four children or young people living here were experiencing poverty - after a shock report confirmed the rate was 26.9 percent in 2022/23.
