Reduced windfarm proposal approved

Dumfries and Galloway Standard

|

December 19, 2025

Scottish Ministers have approved a 10-turbine Cloud Hill Wind Farm near Sanquhar and Kirkconnel instead of an initial proposal of 14.

Following feedback from the community, Dumfries and Galloway Council, and statutory bodies including NatureScot and the Scottish Environment Protection Agency, developer BayWar.e. reduced the number of turbines in its final design - and the substation was moved to reduce visual and environmental impacts.

BayWar.e. said it will now "review and discharge" any planning conditions before construction, which is expected to start in 2028.

Once constructed, it is set to generate around 56 MW of green electricity - enough to power 58,000 homes - and promised to "bring benefits to the local community and environment".
