SANDIACRE Town and Alrewas both lost for the first time on Saturday although Sandiacre stay top by a point in a cluster of teams who have now won three and lost one in the Beechwood Mazda Premier Division.

Sandiacre came unstuck when they fell 10 runs short chasing Spondon’s target of 274-7.

Spondon’s Australian, Stephan Muller, made 90 from 122 balls to underpin their innings and he was out arun short of them reaching 200.

Joe Ashdown’s 43 not out from 34 balls kept them going to the end to set a challenging target, with Muhammed Bin Naeem taking 4-61.

Sandiacre's reply was set back by losing openers Luke Thomas and Scott McNeill for single figures in Matt Madeley’s opening burst and although Bin Naeem battled to 58 from 85 balls they struggled to 80-4.

Captain Connor Marshall took it on and kept Sandiacre in the hunt with 95 not out from 90 balls, with 10 fours and a six, but he kept losing partners and it was all done when the last two wickets fell to run outs at 264.

Alrewas did not get anywhere near as close to keeping their 100% record as they crashed by 154 runs away to Cutthorpe.

Some sloppy fielding did not help Alrewas as Cutthorpe piled up 293-5, in which Aneesh Kapil scored 102 from 93 balls with 10 fours and four sixes.
