ANNE BACKS FACILITY FOCUSED ON FINDING A CURE FOR BRAIN CANCER THAT CHANGED HER SON'S LIFE
A DERBYSHIRE mum is backing a £2.6million investment from Brain Tumour Research to launch a research centre in the East Midlands, focused on finding a cure for the type of brain cancer that changed her son's life.
Anne Siddall, 58, from Eckington, is supporting the charity’s campaign to fund the new Brain Tumour Research Centre of Excellence at the University of Nottingham.
Her son, Archie Siddall, 27, was diagnosed with glioblastoma - an aggressive and incurable form of brain cancer - in October 2022.
The centre will embark on a world-first study to predict glioblastoma recurrence, using advanced MRI imaging and genomic techniques, and accelerate progress towards a cure.
Anne said: "When Archie first started forgetting things and experiencing severe headaches, we were told it was stress.
"It took three visits to A&E at Chesterfield Royal Hospital before he was given a CT scan.
"A 24-year-old shouldn't be told memory loss is normal.
"The new Centre of Excellence gives me hope.
"It’s focusing me on the type of tumour Archie has and the fact that it’s close to home in the Midlands means so much.
