...how buyers Ben and Imogen were drawn to Derbyshire town

First-time buyer Imogen, 31, was uncertain about her preferred location, but she was determined to purchase a new-build home.

It wasn’t until she and her husband Ben viewed a property in Buxton that they were captivated by the stunning views.

The attractive spa town, perched on the edge of the Peak District, is widely regarded as an up and coming area due to a significant £100 million town centre regeneration project that is under way.

Recognised as England's highest market town, Buxton features delightful Victorian architecture, traditional pubs, quaint tea rooms, and miles of countryside walks on its doorstep.

For these reasons, it was even named one of the best places to live in the UK in 2024 by The Sunday Times.

Originally from Leicester, Imogen relocated north after meeting her partner Ben. The couple resided in Ben’s brother's property in Disley, Cheshire, for several years, and successfully accumulated savings for their first home during the pandemic.

“I have always aspired to get on the property ladder and we were so lucky to manage to save up to buy our own house,” said Imogen.

The duo commenced their house-hunting journey in 2022, though weren't committed to any particular location.

“We were quite picky when it came to house-hunting, we definitely knew that we wanted a new build as we just wanted something that was easy to move straight into,” she explained.

“We originally had a house reserved previously in a town called New Mills, but we kept getting push back after push back and some of the houses there have still not sold.”

The pair subsequently chose to explore Buxton.

“I came across these new-build houses on Rightmove and they were ready to buy straight away. There were quite a few of them for sale,” Imogen revealed.
