HOSPITAL bosses have apologised to a terminally ill woman after she was left on an 11-day “starving regime” when a stent to help with feeding failed to work.

- By JOEL MOORE

Sue Unsworth, from Long Eaton, was effectively bedbound and unable to take on proper nutrients in hospital while she waited almost two weeks for medics to rectify the problem.

“I was absolutely exhausted. I was just laying there. My body was in survival mode. I had to really force myself up to even just go to the loo,” said the 55-year-old.

“It was just awful. I felt so hungry and so weak.”

She would sick back up anything apart from sips of water and a drip bag on her arm, which a doctor told her was the “equivalent to a packet of crisps”.

However, Mrs Unsworth said she was repeatedly told operators “didn’t have space” and were “too busy” before a second stent was eventually put in.

Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) apologised for the delays and said it had started a review into her concerns.
