Red letter day as town set for a 'postbox of the future'

Derby Telegraph

September 06, 2025

A DERBYSHIRE postbox has been wrapped in black plastic and temporarily closed, ahead of major changes to the way post is collected.

One of Britain's iconic red pillar boxes near Tesco in Gregory's Way, Belper, has been covered with black pallet wrap and is currently "out of service", with Royal Mail now confirming its future.

It says an "automated system" is coming soon with Royal Mail rolling out 3,500 solar-powered postboxes, which it has described as the "postboxes of the future", across the UK.
