Pub volunteers to close doors 'out of respect' after death of Liam, 19

A TOWN centre pub has temporarily closed its doors out of respect after being “deeply saddened” by the death of a teenager.

Liam Derrett was on a night out with friends before he was assaulted in Ilkeston’s Market Place in the early hours of Sunday, June 1.

The 19-year-old died in hospital two days later, prompting an outpouring of grief in the community and a heartfelt tribute from his family.

One Market Place pub, The Market Inn, close to where a police cordon was in place in the following days, voluntarily closed its doors.

The pub says this decision to close was “ours alone” and hasn't been ordered by the police or council, but out of respect for those affected.

A spokesperson for The Market Inn said: “We're deeply saddened by the recent tragic events that have affected our community.
