The youngest son of King Henry II was so-named because he was not expected to inherit significant lands, but found favour with his father following a failed revolt by his three brothers. He was King from 1199 to 1216, and signed the Magna Carta in 1215.
1491: Ignatius Loyola, who founded the Jesuits, was born in Loyola, northern Spain.
