Manning overboard after Canaries lose

NORWICH have sacked head coach Liam Manning following their late 2-1 defeat to Leicester at Carrow Road.

The Canaries have now lost all seven of their home matches in the Championship this season, with another reverse coming in the Carabao Cup, as pressure built on Manning, right, who departs with the side four points adrift of the safety line.

Sporting director Ben Knapper said: “We have tried absolutely everything possible to work through this incredibly challenging period but, unfortunately, given the recent run of results and performances, we have been left with no choice other than to make a change at this stage.

“We accept that responsibility but it’s now imperative we start to repair the relationship with our supporters and do everything we can to give them something to get behind.”

After going ahead on 62 minutes through Mathias Kvistgaarden’s second goal in successive games, Norwich were pegged back by substitute Bobby Cordova-Reid 10 minutes later and then suffered a nightmare conclusion when Jordan James headed home a dramatic second for the visitors.

Middlesbrough put talk of head coach Rob Edwards joining Wolves to one side by beating Birmingham 2-1 at the Riverside Stadium.
