Guilty of ‘a truly shocking crime, committed in broad daylight in a busy city centre bank’

KNIFEMAN ADMITS TO MURDERING BUSINESSMAN IN ‘SENSELESS’ STABBING ATTACK
A 47-year-old man has pleaded guilty to the murder of a bank customer in Derby city centre.
Dressed in a prison-issue grey tracksuit and assisted by a Somali interpreter, Haybe Cabdiraxmaan Nur admitted to being responsible for the unlawful killing of Gurvinder Singh Johal, when he appeared at Derby Crown Court.
Court clerk Aisha Shabir asked the defendant: “You are charged with murder in that on May 6, 2025, you murdered Gurvinder Johal. How do you plead?”
He replied: “Guilty.”
T h e 37-year-old victim was stabbed by the defendant, of Western Road, Normanton, inside Lloyds Bank, in St Peter’s Street. He was pronounced dead at the scene after emergency services were alerted at about 2.35pm.
