'Groundbreaking' growth plans are unveiled but no guarantee on trams link-up

REGION'S MAYOR SAYS OTHER TRANSPORT PROJECTS COULD TAKE PRIORITY INSTEAD
EAST Midlands mayor Claire Ward has refused to guarantee a new tram link will run from Derby to Nottingham - despite the project being labelled “a key growth zone” for the region.
But she insisted those struggling to live and work in both cities that better times are ahead as she unveiled “groundbreaking” growth plans for the region.
In June it was reported that a “mass transit” link between Derby and Nottingham was one of several key projects to be taken forward as part of a £2 billion transport improvement plan.
The Labour mayor said a £300,000 feasibility study had been launched to explore tram links across the region - but this did not cover a specific Derby and Nottingham line.
But speaking at an event in Derby to launch a region-wide growth funding master plan, she suggested other much-needed transport projects could take priority instead.
