FORMER CHAIRMAN DROPS TAKEOVER HINT
ANDY Appleby has sent David Clowes a very public investment offer - and even hinted at another Derby County takeover attempt.
In an interview with BBC Radio Derby the American, who was Rams' chairman between 2008 and 2015 before Mel Morris took over, applauded Clowes' salvage operation in 2022 and the work he has done to return the club to the second-tier of English football and restore financial stability at Pride Park Stadium.
Few Rams fans would disagree with that but Clowes' ownership has reached a new stage, with a search for fresh investment. With that in mind, Clowes has resumed taking advice from Jonathan Price, who helped him buy the club three years ago.
Appleby was also in contention to rescue the Rams in 2022 and believed at the time the deal was 'in the final strokes' before Clowes took control.
