Action taken after cars queue on level crossing

CARS queuing on a Derbyshire level crossing in heavy traffic have prompted Network Rail to install temporary electronic signage nearby to warn motorists of the dangers and possible prosecution.

Despite this, motorists are still stopping on the automatic Willington rail crossing on numerous occasions - some of which have required emergency action to be taken such as towing people away.

The level crossing was the scene of a serious collision involving a car and train on November 28 - an incident which is being investigated by British Transport Police.

There was also an incident of a barrier striking a vehicle on December 1, disrupting rail services in the area.
