KICKING UP A STINK

PLAN: A makeshift bridge of bricks and tyres

RESIDENTS of Makhaza, Khayelitsha, are gatvol after being forced to live and work with raw sewage following through their homes and streets for nearly a month.

A massive sewage spill, which began on Saturday, 29 November, has continued to overflow into homes, doorways, and trading areas, leaving the community dik onsteld.

The spill, believed to stem from a burst sewer pipe, has sent waste flowing through several strate and into shacks and houses.

Blame

Some vendors have already abandoned their stalls, choosing to stay home rather than work in these morsige conditions.
