Stand-in Merino's a real Czech mate for Arteta

- TOM CANTON IN PRAGUE

IT WAS a record-breaking and record-equalling night for Arsenal.

And for Mikel Merino, once again a night where if a striker's only job is to score goals, he showed how good he is at it.

Merino filled in at the tip of the Arsenal spear to help Mikel Arteta's side on their way to a fourth straight Champions League victory.

They did so without conceding a goal for the eighth match in a row ~ equalling a record set 122 years ago.

And the evening was capped off 18 minutes from the end as sub Max Dowman became the youngest player to appear in the Champions League at 15 years and 308 days old.

Yet were it not for ref Aliyar Aghayev being sent to the VAR screen to reconsider his decision to award a penalty to Slavia after Ben Whites ‘foul’ on Lukas Provod, that clean sheet accolade might have fallen.
