Fin chose Red Rose despite family's strong Scots links

TARTAN TWIST

FIN SMITH never intended to switch allegiance despite his strong Scottish family links.

Smith's parents Andrew and Jude are both from north of the border and grandad Tom Elliot propped for Scotland and toured South Africa with the Lions in 1955.

But the young fly-half is set to line up for England against Finn Russell and his team in next Saturday's Calcutta Cup clash causing divided loyalties in the Smith clan.

Smith, 22, spoke to current Scotland coach Gregor Townsend (bottom right) about touring South America when he was a teenager.

But as a product of the Midlands, Warwick School and an Aston Villa fan who had been brought up as English, he was never making the switch.
