SEVEN-SEATER EV A TRIUMPH FOR HYUNDAI... AND IT'S SPEEDY TOO

Electric vehicles are multiplying fast, offering more choice than ever. Yet when it comes to seven-seaters, the field remains surprisingly thin. The Ioniq 9, sister to the Kia EV9, aims to fill that gap - a roomy, family-focused EV that's built for practicality. But does it deliver more than just generous space?

WHAT'S NEW?

The Ioniq 9 and Kia EV9 are the same underneath essentially. They share motors and batteries, but the EV9 has a blocky, upright design while the Ioniq 9 has a sleeker, more aerodynamic-looking appearance.

Elsewhere, there's loads of clever technology, a big boot and flexible seating. These traits should put it right within the family target market.

WHAT'S UNDER THE BONNET?

All Ioniq 9 models come with a huge 110kWh battery, enabling a range of up to 376 miles on certain models. You can get this large EV in either Long Range or Performance setups, too, with the latter bringing 421bhp to the former's 302bhp. All versions get all-wheel-drive as standard, too.

Opt for the standard Long Range model, like our test car, and you'll get 0-60mph in six seconds alongside a 124mph top speed. Clever 800V charging means it can charge at speeds of up to 350kW, too, meaning a 10-80% charge of this car's large battery could be over in 24 minutes.

WHAT'S IT LIKE TO DRIVE?
