Bloom buying into dream of ending Old Firm's monopoly

- BY NEIL McLEMAN

WHEN Tony Bloom invested £9.86m to buy 29 per cent of Hearts, the aim was to “disrupt” the dominance of the Old Firm.

As it stands now, they are doing just that. Hearts are top of the Scottish Premiership — eight points clear of champions Celtic and 13 in front of Rangers.

The Brighton owner (inset) was at Tynecastle on Sunday to see Derek McInnes side beat champions Celtic 3-1 in what proved to be Brendan Rodgers’ final game in charge as he resigned last night.

Rangers legend Ally McCoist has backed Hearts to emulate Sir Alex Ferguson's Aberdeen and become the first non-Glasgow team to win the Scottish title since 1985.

Jambos fans sang, “We shall not be moved” and, “Only one Tony Bloom” during the statement win.
