Haaland & Doku see off 10-man Napoli as De Bruyne return ruined

- BY JEREMY CROSS

KING KEV IS FEELING BLUE

AS homecomings go it wasn't quite what Kevin De Bruyne had in mind.

And definitely not what he deserved.

But even one of the true greats was powerless to prevent a miserable return to Manchester, which lasted just 25 minutes and ended with him being on the losing side. But if De Bruyne wanted someone to blame, he didn’t have to look further than his Napoli captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo.

The defender’s trip on Erling Haaland saw him get a straight red card before halftime, which resulted in De Bruyne (left) being taken off.

And just to rub more salt into the Belgian’s wounds, it was Haaland’s record-breaking goal which propelled City towards a winning start to their latest Champions League campaign.

The Norwegian’ second-half header saw him overtake Ruud van Nistelrooy as the fastest player to score 50 goals in the competition. It took him just 49 games, compared to Van Nistelrooy's 62.
