OUR STAB AT HISTORY OF TATTOOS

THE tattooing industry is set to be revolutionised by artificial intelligence, as the Daily Star revealed yesterday. And it got us thinking, or rather, inking about it.

With a few dodgy tats of his own, Tom Stichbury puts the needle on the colourful history of body art down the ages...

Thaw blimey! The earliest evidence of tattooing dates back to the Bronze Age. In 1991, the 5,000-year-old remains of “Otzi the Iceman’ a naturally mummified man from around 3300 BCE, was found in a glacier. Perfectly preserved, the frozen fella had a series of simple lines and dots all over his body, including above his kidneys and right knee. Boffins reckon they might have been therapeutic and a form of pain relief.
