Escape to... Antarctica?

ONE of the wackier notions on what happened to Hitler after the war is that he escaped to a secret Nazi bunker in the icy wastes of Antarctica.

The theory goes that the Germans visited the continent in 1939 and began constructing an underground city there dubbed "the new Berchtesgaden" in a nod to Hitler's real Bavarian holiday retreat. They had been able to do this by finding deep caves, with a geothermal lake, in an area called Queen Maud Land.
