Rose wants to be in Ireland as a player and not as captain

JUSTIN ROSE revealed he is “still hungry” after declaring he wants to play his eighth Ryder Cup in Ireland at the age of 47.

The world No.12 was the oldest player at Bethpage Black over the weekend and the obvious candidate for the captain's job if Luke Donald stands down following his second win.

The Team Europe skipper refused to rule out remaining as boss for a third time at Adare Manor in 2027 - the centenary of the competition - and said he will give a decision at the start of next year.

But Rose has been in fine form this season as he lost a playoff to Rory Mcllroy at the Masters then won the FedEx St Jude Championships last month.
