Getting back into training

Having only run 15 miles since mid-December after an injury, you may have thought the way to get my fitness back would be a weekly gradual distance increase.

But that's just not me, so last week I dived in headfirst and ran the 66-mile XNRG Pilgrim Challenge along the North Downs Way from Surrey.I have run this a few times before but this time my prostate cancer “brother” Ian joined me for what would be his first race of this distance as part of our training for our big race in the Sahara in only eight weeks.

Having lived in this area for many years I knew the route would throw a fair bit of mud at us, however, it turned out to be the wettest, muddiest race I have ever run.
