Worried divorced parents will ruin my wedding day
Daily Record
|November 20, 2025
I'M looking forward to marrying my fiancé next June, but I'm losing sleep over the fact my parents hate each other and I'm nervous about how it'll play out on the day.

Dear Coleen
My mum walked out on my dad and they haven't spoken for 10 years, even though they've both moved on with new partners. My dad still resents my mum, as she had an affair with the guy she’s still with and it was very acrimonious.
The divorce was horrendous for me and my brother, as our sympathies lay with our dad, but we didn’t want to pick sides.
Things are fine now, but that's only because our parents have no contact with each other and we never discuss one in front of the other.
