Golden goalscorers tell Scotland stars its time for a new generation of heroes

- BY RYAN CARROLL

SCOTLAND'S World Cup legends have told Steve Clarke's boys it is time to write their names into the history books.

As the squad prepares to take on Denmark in a crunch clash tonight, the message from our footballing legends is clear - score the goal that takes us to the World Cup and you will be a hero forever.

Joe Jordan, Frank McAvennie and Kevin Gallacher are among the Scotland scorers who have fired us into previous World Cups.

And last night they urged Scotland's current crop of World Cup hopefuls to send the Tartan Army into dreamland - just like they did.

Joe, who scored the classic goal against Czechoslovakia that fired us to the 1974 finals, said: "The game was huge. It was a similar situation to this game. We were in a situation where we hadn't been at a finals for 16 years.

"It's a similar situation with this Scotland team. A lot of them won't get another chance like this.

"To win that game, to go to a World Cup finals with your country, it's something you've dreamed about since you were a schoolkid.

"It's a fantastic opportunity for them. To play them at Hampden, it's a great opportunity.

"We've got to go there and focus on winning the game and get us to the World Cup."

Frank McAvennie - who bagged the second in a 2-0 win against Australia in November 1985 to help send us to Mexico 86 - has told the boys to "go for it", just like he did.
