SCOTLAND'S World Cup wonder win over Denmark was the country's most watched live TV event of the year, after more than a million viewers tuned in.

The dramatic tie at Hampden Park, which saw the side reach next summer's finals in North America, proved a ratings winner when it was shown on BBC2 and the BBC Scotland channel on Tuesday night.

A total of 1.1million viewers in Scotland watched the national team win 4-2, with goals from Scott McTominay, Lawrence Shankland, Kieran Tierney and Kenny McLean.

Viewing peaked in the final moments of the UEFA thrilling game when Tierney and McLean scored in injury time to seal one of the greatest victories by the national side.

The UK-wide FOUND average audience for the match was 2.7million, the highest for all men's internationals involving Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland this year.

The live sports page for the match on the BBC website also had 7.7million views making it the top page title over the past year.
