33 injured as gusts topple vessel in dry dock
A SHIP in a dry dock in Leith was yesterday tipped over by high winds - leaving 33 people injured, with some in a serious condition.
Twenty-three victims were taken to hospital while a further 10 were treated and discharged at the scene.
The accident happened at the Imperial Dock in Leith at 8.35am, when research vessel the Petrel become dislodged from its holding in wind speeds of up to 44mph, ending up leaning at a 45-degree angle.
The ambulance service said 17 patients were taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, four to Western General Hospital and two to Kirkcaldy's Victoria Hospital.
Scaffolder James Walsh, 39, said he was working near the dock when he heard a "loud noise", adding: "It's scary.
