Chants for Gers kid Moore could be a pivotal moment in club's progress as fans are crying out for stars to lavish praise on after years of watching duds

- BY SCOTT MCDERMOTT

SOMETHING significant happened at Rugby Park on Saturday night.

And it wasn’t just that a Rangers striker actually found the back of the net again.

Of course, Bojan Miovski’s double against Kilmarnock was huge for the North Macedonian and key to a 3-0 victory for Danny Rohl's team.

But no... what occurred after the 90 minutes in Ayrshire felt even more seminal for the club.

An 18-year-old stepped forward from a crowd of orange shirts to take the acclaim of the away support in the Chadwick Stand.

For the first time in a while, Rangers fans were united in chanting the name of one of their players.

That might not seem like a big deal but in the context of what these long-suffering supporters have endured, it felt like a pivotal moment.

Mikey Moore might not realise it.

But he could be just what Rangers and their followers have been crying out for.

A hero.

To most punters, that might sound ridiculous.

Every club, through good times and bad, surely has players the fans idolise?

But after what has gone on at Ibrox over the last few years, genuine heroes have been as rare as Youssef Chermiti goals.

Six nights ago, Rangers grabbed an injury-time leveller from the penalty spot to rescue a point against Dundee United.

At almost every other club in Britain, that would have seen players getting cheered off the pitch seconds later.

At Tannadice, we saw the opposite unfold.

Even by Gers’ standards, the level of abuse aimed at Rohl's side as they trudged up the tunnel was vitriolic at best. We know it is because Premiership draws aren't good enough for Rangers, especially given the league table.
