Scottish Labour leader backs Starmer amid power struggle

- PAUL HUTCHEON

UNACCEPTABLE

ANAS Sarwar has lashed out at the "deeply unhelpful" and "unacceptable" Downing Street briefing war engulfing Keir Starmer's government.

The Scottish Labour leader said he "absolutely" backs the Prime Minister, but refused to be drawn on his embattled aide Morgan McSweeney.

Starmer's Government is in chaos after unnamed Downing Street figures briefed that Health Secretary Wes Streeting was after the top job.

Streeting pushed back hard and received an apology from the PM amid a furious backlash.

With Scottish Labour 17 points behind the SNP in Holyrood opinion polls, senior party figures are angry about the backbiting.
