A 363-PAGE tome from the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has finally spelled out that police were in the wrong over the Hillsborough disaster.

That black April day in 1989 when 97 Liverpool fans were crushed to death in a stadium pen was a tragedy that will never be forgotten.

But South Yorkshire Police's bungling and subsequent cover-ups have never properly been brought to light.

Now we know it was their “deep complacency” and “fundamental failures” that contributed to the disaster. And there was a “concerted effort” by police to blacken the reputation of innocent football supporters after the catastrophe.
