Stephanie marks 5th anniversary of train horror as union accuses Network Rail of failing to act

THE widow of the train driver killed in the Stonehaven rail disaster paid tribute to her husband on the fifth anniversary of the tragedy yesterday as a union blasted a lack of action on safety.

Driver Brett McCullough, 45, conductor Donald Dinnie, 58, and passenger Christopher Stuchbury, 62, died when a ScotRail train derailed at Carmont, near Stonehaven, Kincardineshire, after hitting a landslide following heavy rain.

Six others, including hero train guard Nicola Whyte, were injured after the train hit debris washed out from a drain while returning to Aberdeen due to a blocked line.

Network Rail was fined £6.7million after admitting failings which led to the deaths in 2023.
