THE NO GAFFER BOUNCE

Gers waiting on Muscat but Martin's exit takes away the toxicity and players should get a big lift against United

RANGERS had the whole of the international break to get a new gaffer in the building after finally putting Russell Martin out of his misery.

But it looks like Kevin Muscat won't be spotted at Ibrox for at least another month despite agreeing to step into Martin's shoes on Thursday night.

The Aussie will have to see the Chinese season out with Shanghai Port before he jumps onto a ship that was sinking with Martin at the helm.

The former Southampton boss hit an iceberg weeks ago but was allowed to cling on for dear life as the atmosphere at Ibrox turned increasingly toxic.

The players are now in lifeboats waiting for Muscat to appear on the horizon after the board sent out a Save Our Season appeal to their former defender.

It will be interesting to see how things pan out until the new gaffer arrives, with youth coach Steven Smith set to take charge today before handing the team over to interim boss Neil McCann.

Dundee United will be hoping to take advantage of the uncertainty when they pitch up at Ibrox this afternoon.
