THE HARVS AND THE HARV NOTS

Newcastle winger Harvey Barnes is out of the picture with England and could jump on Scotland's bandwagon at the World Cup. But should he be picked ahead of one of the players who got us to the finals? Here are our views...

THE HARVS AND THE HARV NOTS

ASK any of the national team players who pulled off a miracle to reach the World Cup if they would take Barnes in their squad for the finals in USA, Canada and Mexico.

Td be willing to bet that just about every one of them would approve. The reason? They want to win.

One of our Hampden heroes, Kenny McLean, admitted last week he would have no problem in welcoming the Englishman into camp.

The more quality you have within the group, the better chance you've got of achieving positive results on the park.

That should be the end of the debate, really.

Of course, Barnes should have committed to Scotland earlier because his cap chances with England were always going to be limited.

He hasn't exactly nailed his Saltire colours to the mast and he'll have a brass neck to declare himself Scottish just after we've qualified for the greatest show on earth.

But boss Steve Clarke has a job to do.

He can't afford another dismal campaign at a major finals, like we had at Euro 2024.

And crucially, his team is crying out for width, pace, creativity and firepower.
