ATHLETE Eilish McColgan had to undergo surgery on her spine after falling ill while attending a wedding.

The champion runner was at a friend's nuptials when she began feeling unwell and had to go straight from the ceremony to accident and emergency.

The Commonwealth Games gold medallist has not divulged exactly what caused the illness but said it led to her spending five days in hospital.

Eilish, 32, who posted a photo of herself on a stretcher wearing her wedding outfit, had to have a procedure to seal a fluid leak in her spine.
