Kenny's ready to become a Hoops superhero after Queen's Park pain

- BY RYAN MCDONALD

THREE years ago, Johnny Kenny was drawing blanks on loan at Queen's Park.

Now the Irishman is savouring a meteoric rise to Celtic stardom and the 22-year-old is determined to seize his big opportunity by becoming the main man up front.

Kenny has been forced to wait patiently for his Hoops breakthrough since arriving as a teen from Sligo Rovers in 2022.

A goalless 12-game stint saw his Queen's Park season-long loan ripped up early.

But Kenny bounced back in style with two prolific spells at Shamrock Rovers before rejoining Brendan Rodgers' top team in January.

Kyogo Furuhashi’s £10million winter exit to Rennes looked to have opened the door for Kenny but the hitman was forced to watch on from the sidelines as Daizen Maeda and Adam Idah started most of the games.

Fast forward a few months and the forward is living the dream after answering Celtic's call in their hour of need.

With first-choice striker Kelechi Iheanacho crocked, Kenny has made the most of his audition under Martin O'Neill.

A deadly double against Falkirk won him a place in the interim gaffer's starting lineup at Hampden.

And the hitman rose to the occasion, burying a bullet header to send Celts on their way to the League Cup Final.

Understandably, Kenny has barely time to catch a breath.
