League title could be determined by January arms race and chairman Cavenagh looks like he's buying into battle plan

IT'S starting to feel as if the outcome of this season's fight for the title might be determined by what happens in the January transfer window.

And if it’s all going to be determined by an arms race then the most encouraging aspect for Rangers is that Andrew Cavenagh quite clearly hopes to roll out a few big guns before the end of this month.

The new owner hasn't had it easy since he took over the club last summer. If truth be told, he may have been surprised by the sheer scale of the task he was taking on.

And he'd also put his hand up and admit that mistakes were made during those early weeks in charge.

It was always likely to take him a bit of time to get his feet across the front door and to get a real feel for what Rangers and Ibrox feels like when the place is bouncing and everyone is pulling together. It's a special place. There's nowhere else in football quite like it.

But that all hinges on winning games of football. And maybe that's the biggest lesson learned over these last six months.

Rangers is all about winning. It always has been.

And, after a difficult start, they are now in a position to start delivering silverware again, even though this same group of players were being written off as no-hopers just a month or so ago.
