A psychotherapist explains how financial imposter syndrome can affect your life, and advises how to take control of your money

- By SARA KEENAN

CONFIDENCE is seriously lacking when it comes to our finances. And there's a new label on the block - "financial imposter syndrome" - and more than three million adults suffer from it, a study from wealth manager Quilter has found. It's a psychological state that manifests itself in chronic doubt about financial skills, achievements and entitlements and we need to shake it off.

The study was conducted in partnership with financial psychotherapist Vicky Reynal, who here, sheds some light on this syndrome and how to overcome it.

WHAT IS FINANCIAL IMPOSTER SYNDROME?

"Financial imposter syndrome is a psychological pattern in which we doubt our own financial abilities," Vicky says. "Alongside the self-doubt, there's also fear of being found out as a fraud, even if we were quite successful financially.
