As a vegan who forgoed the fabled brogues and didn't wear a suit and tie on matchdays, the former Southampton boss was up against it from the start with a section of the fanbase.
He didn’t quite go the full Clough and tell his players to throw all their medals in the bin — not that the pile would be particularly big anyway - but Martin still ripped into his skipper and star player after a 1-1 draw at Motherwell on day one in the Premiership.
