Expanded Rugby World Cup means Scots have chance to escape pool
THE draw for the 2027 Rugby World Cup takes place this morning in Sydney.
And the good news for Scotland is this time they have a very good chance of making it out of their pool - whoever they are drawn against.
Gregor Townsend's team failed to qualify for the knockout stages in 2019 and 2023 after tough draws.
Six years ago they were third in their pool behind hosts Japan and Ireland, so did not make it to the quarterfinals. And they were third again in 2023, behind the Irish and South Africa.
Those failures are one reason why some supporters argued Townsend should't be given a third crack of the whip when Australia will be hosts.
But this time round, it will be a whole lot easier for him - or whoever else is boss by then - to steer his team out of the pool stage.
