Maswanhise returns from AFCON to remind Well fans why he's so vital to side
ABSENCE certainly makes the heart grow fonder.
Jens Berthel Askou still reckons having Tawanda Maswanhise available could have made the difference at Ibrox nine days ago in a game Motherwell feel they deserved to take something from.
But the Zimbabwean striker reminded everyone at Fir Park on Saturday of exactly what he brings as he returned from the heat of the Africa Cup of Nations to the sharp chill of North Lanarkshire.
He netted his 13th goal of the season before Elliot Watt added a sumptuous second in a game where St Mirren were missing in action during a 2-0 defeat.
And Maswanhise insisted that, despite loving the international experience, he was keeping checks on a Well side confounding all expectations this term to sit two points off second spot.
"I got back on Tuesday night," said Maswanhise. "It was my first AFCON, it was a good experience.
"In terms of the football, seeing a lot of talent and then coming on, playing with a lot of other talents from across the world was really good.
"Hopefully I can have another tournament, but with more minutes.
"I managed to score, which was a special feeling. But it was good to be back.
"Of course, I was cheering on the lads during the games I missed.
"I was getting a few texts saying we missed you and the like, which was great.
"I missed the manager as well. I missed the players and I've just missed playing at Fir Park, to be honest.
"I'm delighted to get the goal and I hope Motherwell fans can enjoy their weekend."
